Teaching Experience
Undergraduate
I have designed a range of courses and introduced a number of innovative teaching methods in: Administrative Law (25-50 students: all lectures, seminars, formative and summative assessments and feedback, on-line quizzes and resources), Public Law (compulsory module, 350 students: lectures, tutorials, on-line assessments, formative and summative assessments and feedback), EU Law (compulsory module, 350 students: lectures, tutorials, formative and summative assessments and feedback), and Legal Foundations (seminars).
I have supervised undergraduate dissertations on EU administrative law.
My current main (undergraduate) teaching responsibilities are Public Law (Module Convenor lecturer/tutor) and Administrative Law (Module Convenor, lecturer and tutor).
Personal Tutor: pastoral care, referencing, revision and feedback support for 36 students.
Postgraduate
Programme Director, LLM European Legal Studies.
Co-Module Leader and tutor on LLM European Legal Studies on the European Law and Governance Module (interdisciplinary module taught across law and political science).
I supervise and assess postgraduate dissertations (3-4 per year) on a range of topics (e.g. ethics and EU law, competition law enforcement, legitimacy and EU, transparency, European Parliament, EU voting behaviour, gender and the EU Institutions, EU environmental law, impact assessments and judicial review, Brexit).
Administrative roles
Chair, Postgraduate Examinations Board (4 exam boards per year, leading a team of professional service staff, responsible for disciplinary actions and School Representative at University Appeals Committee). Impact: drafted a new policy on unfair practice procedures to introduce greater consistency in decision making.
Research Mentor to two junior colleagues, proving research leadership and advice on career progression and writing / publishing. Impact: successful negotiation of probation for mentees.
Staff Recruitment: shortlisting / interviewing for academic posts.
Member, REF Selection Panel (internal assessment and mentoring of colleagues work in preparation for REF 2021). Impact: contribute to REF submission strategy.
Programme Director, LLM European Legal Studies, leading a programme of 6 modules (includes student admissions, open days, marketing and allocation of dissertation supervisions). Impact: streamlining dissertation allocation process; contributing to design of admissions criteria; ensuring adherence to MoU with University of Amiens / Toulouse.
Module Convenor (Public Law leading a team of 6 tutors). Impact: Redesigned course, introduced on-line problem-solving assessment techniques, mentored junior colleagues and PhD tutors, and managed and trained part-time tutors.
Module Convenor (Administrative Law leading a team of 2). Impact: redesigned course, introduced flipped classrooms, on-line problem solving techniques and assessments, peer to peer marking, group presentations (and grading), project work and mooting.
Co-Director of Postgraduate Studies (2013-2014): leading a team of 3 academics and 4 professional service staff. Impact: developing PhD applications, managing introduction of University PhD progression systems, and introduction of PhD funding schemes (AHRC Doctoral Training Consortium and ESRC). PhD numbers have increased following the roll out of these funding schemes.
REF Selection Panel (2012-2014 and 2016-2021): peer-reviewing work for selection in REF 2014 / 2021.
Teaching Mentor (2012-14): mentoring junior colleagues for excellence in teaching. Impact: successful progression of mentees to Higher Education Academy Fellow status.
Chair, Student Progress Monitoring and Support Committee (2010-2013), leading a team of 2 academic staff and 2 professional service staff, responsible for decisions on student disciplinary cases for non-attendance and offering supported returns for those with extenuating circumstances.
Year Director, Level 6 (2010-11): Impact: introduced teaching ‘levels’ into law school, introduced innovative teaching practices (eg flipped classrooms, peer assessment, group assessment, problem based learning in lectures, portfolios), participated in teaching related policy development (teaching consistency, assessment criteria, student feedback and assessment).

Working Group for Pastoral Care (reviewing the personal tutee policy): Impact: introduced ‘taster sessions’ for new first years students 2008/9).
Member of Jean Monnet Centre for European Law and Governance, participation at public lectures, workshops and seminars and hosting visiting scholars. Impact: stimulating research collaboration and research environment.
Member of COREPER, the interdisciplinary European scholars reading group.
Chair, Research Surgeries – designed to facilitate better publications / outputs and give constructive feedback for work in progress of colleagues. Impact: increasing quality of publications for REF.

Advisor to European Parliament, Legal Affairs Committee: Commissioned reports, presentations and workshops on effective enforcement of EU law and recognition of administrative right for citizens 2010 - date. (see publications list).
Peer Review of book proposals/ publications for: Oxford University Press, Routledge, Hart Publishing, Edward Elgar Publishing on a range of books from textbooks on Public, Administrative and European Law, both national and international, to scholarly monographs including viability of books and published book reviews.
Peer Review of journal articles: for the top European (national and internationally based) journals: European Law Journal, European Law Review, Common Market Law Review, Journal of Contemporary European Research, Modern Law Review (2007-date).
Peer Review of grant proposals for the National Polish Science Centre (European and administrative law), 3 in 2016/2017, 2 in 2017/2018.
Steering Committee, Public Law Wales, (2007-2012) a forum which organises public engagement talks with academics and practitioners on public, administrative and EU law.
I have hosted visiting scholars at Cardiff University as part of the Centre for European Law and Governance (Dr Nikos Vogiatzis, University of Liverpool and Prof Karsten Engsig Sørensen, University of Aarhus).

Prizes and Honours
2015 Visiting Research Fellowship, University College Dublin (hosted by Prof. Imelda Maher).
2006 College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Edinburgh Scholarship Prize, £10,000, plus University of Edinburgh PhD programme fees for 1 year.
